Since joining SM Recruitment, I’ve had the chance to step straight into the fast-paced world of recruitment marketing and see first-hand how a modern agency operates behind the scenes. What started as an opportunity to apply my marketing and SEO background has quickly become a genuinely rewarding experience—one where I’m contributing to real business outcomes while learning the nuances of an industry that moves at speed.
I was first drawn to SM Recruitment seeking an opportunity to be introduced to the world of recruitment, an industry that I have always been interested in. However it wasn’t until my first day that I realised how rewarding it could be. Originally I was brought on as a Marketing intern backed by my experience in SEO and marketing project management, but this quickly evolved into a multi-functional internship, getting to experience sales, marketing and recruitment. It didn’t take long to appreciate how much useful knowledge that Sarah had to offer and her experience in the recruitment industry showed itself, along with a complete passion for the sector.
Projects -
My time at SM Recruitment has been hands‑on from day one, giving me the chance to work across several core projects that directly support the company’s growth. Each one has helped me blend my marketing background with the fast-paced demands of recruitment.
SEO Foundations & Strategy
I’ve been developing the early SEO framework for SM Recruitment — from keyword research and competitor analysis to improving on‑page structure and visibility. This has helped us begin building a stronger digital footprint and attract more relevant candidates organically. This also included the redesign of the application forms for a more streamlined customer process. The utilisation of dashboard analytics has made tracking growth metrics far more viable too.
Website Redesign
I’ve been involved in shaping the direction of the website redesign, focusing on clarity of who we are at SM Recruitment and aligning our pages more with our company branding. This includes reviewing site structure, addition of a testimonials page, refining messaging, and ensuring the new design reflects the professionalism and personality of the business.
Branding Boards
To support the future of SM Recruitment’s brand identity and consistency, I created branding boards that define colour palettes, typography, tone, and visual direction. These boards act as a foundation for future marketing materials and help ensure everything we produce feels aligned and intentional.
LinkedIn Outreach and Design
I’ve begun supporting LinkedIn outreach efforts and the search for candidates. This has given me a deeper understanding of how relationship‑building works in recruitment. I also worked on refreshing the company’s LinkedIn presence — from layout and visuals to content structure and brand positioning. The goal has been to create a profile that feels modern, trustworthy, and reflective of the business’s ambitions providing a solid platform for outreach.
What I’ve Learned
Working across these projects has given me a strong understanding of how recruitment and marketing intersect. I’ve learned how important clarity is in job adverts, how SEO directly influences candidate quality, and how brand consistency shapes trust. Most importantly, I’ve gained insight into the pace, precision, and adaptability that recruitment demands.
Looking Ahead
I’m excited to keep building on the foundations we’ve set—whether that’s scaling our SEO strategy, supporting the website launch, or continuing to strengthen our brand presence. My time at SM Recruitment so far has been both challenging and rewarding, and I’m looking forward to contributing even more as the business grows.
